This is "Echoes – A Voice from Uncharted Waters," a public art installation that is open until November 13. 👉🏾 Yoon Haeundae Galbi on 8 West 36th Street At 8 West 36th Street, there's Yoon Haeundae Galbi — a Korean BBQ restaurant that's a contemporary recreation of a popular restaurant in Busan that was founded back in 1964. Their specialty is the short ribs that are prepared with the Haeundae Cut, a special butchering technique that was invented by Bobby’s grandfather to tenderize the meat. Kinda Interesting Things #118: “At The Start… At Long Last” — an art installation by Sheila Levrant de Bretteville If you take the A train at the northern terminus at 207th Street, you’ll come across “At The Start… At Long Last” an art installation by Sheila Levrant de Bretteville. Commissioned by the Arts for Transit program in 1999, this art installation at the Inwood-207th Street subway station consists of several elements: First there’s this sign on the floor, at the entrance to the station, that either welcomes passengers who are “at the start” of their commute, or who — “at long last” — have arrived home from a hard day’s work. On the walls of the station, you’ll find “at the start” and “at long last” in large, metallic silver Murano mosaics. Trailing off the ellipses, and printed on 207 white ceramic tiles around the station, you’ll find quotes from the neighborhood’s residents that reflect the experience of immigrants and transplants in NYC, which De Bretteville gathered over months of research. Finally, on the mezzanine, you’ll find these jazz-influenced motifs of the letter A on the floor, and the lyrics to the famous song “Take The A Train” etched into the railing of the mezzanine balcony. Kinda Interesting Things #115: The Little Silhouettes at the Prince St. Station in SoHo If you’re waiting for the R/W train at the Prince Street station, you’ll notice these little silhouettes along the wall of people carrying things. This is “CARRYING ON” by Janet Zweig and Edward Del Rosario. Commissioned by the MTA Arts for Transit program and installed back in 2004, this frieze consists of 194 silhouettes of different people, walking along a 1,200 foot dotted line, carrying all sorts of items from bags, to groceries, to trees. The silhouettes are actually taken from photographs of more than 2,000 New Yorkers, living life in the city, in and out of the subway. MANGA in NYC presented by SONY Ginza Park is a 2-floor FREE manga exhibit here in NYC. They collaborated with 6️⃣ groups of Japanese artists to create six original MANGA titles that you won’t find anywhere else but here! 👃 Not only do they utilize Sony's technology, "Tensor Valve" odorant control, which links "scents" to the MANGA's story, but they also installed "Active Slate" equipped with Haptics in the floor, to give the feeling of walking on water. Just don’t forget about their free Manga-can vending machine! 🍵 They have 6 different cans total each containing a sticker drawn by one of the artists.
