#Gerrymandering is once again in the headlines this week; revisiting this recent piece. On Tuesday, a New York court allowed the redrawing of congressional districts, a process controlled by Democrats, which would enable them to reconfigure them to their advantage, as they’ve done in the past. Also on Tuesday, the Supreme Court allowed a Texas county to use an electoral that judges had previously ruled was racially gerrymandered.
Gerrymandering is where one party or another alters the electoral map based on demographics (changing who’s in what district), in order to rig the system and obtain the desired result. Both parties do it, and it makes elections less competitive, more predictable, less democratic and more corrupt. What are your thoughts on this? Bad? Who cares? Representative democracy is a mess anyway? Par for the course? Or does this matter more than most things we pay attention to, but barely gets talked about? Whatcha think? This was a collaboration with @representus; we’re also working together on a new piece about political corruption coming out soon! #politics #political #voting #news #newyork #texas #foryoupage
