Another change I made after battling cancer was swapping our cooking utensils. I was still using the black plastic utensils prior to diagnosis🙅♀️🫣 so once I started learning about all the areas of our homes which increased our exposure to toxins, this was an easy swap! I like to have bamboo and stainless steel for use, depending on what I’m cooking that day. 100% bamboo is not coated in anything toxic, unlike some of the wooden spoons on the market. On their own, they prevent bacteria from growing on them, making them a very hygienic choice for your home. They are also not prone to stains or odors because they don't absorb smells or flavors like some other plastic, wooden, or metal utensils. Also, their scratch-resistant surface means there are no grooves for dirt to hide and cause discoloration or smells. To clean, simply hand wash them with warm water and mild dish soap and they're good to go. When buying stainless steel utensils, you want to look for 18/10 or 18/0 stainless steel. I prefer 18/10, and I’ll tell you why. 18/10 stainless steel is made up of 72% iron, 18% chromium, and 10% nickel, it’s known for its strength and polished appearance. Chromium ensures corrosion resistance, while nickel adds durability. It is used in high-quality kitchenware, cutlery, medical instruments, industrial applications, construction, and jewelry, offering better rust and stain resistance than 18/8 and 18/0 stainless steel, but the price will go up a little. Always, always check what your products are made out of being purchasing.
