It’s World Mental Health Day. What do you do to unwind, to decompress, to keep your sanity? Do you have a friend or accountability partner that you can call? Do you take a trip to the spa or a weekend getaway? Go walking, running or exercise? Treat yourself to a pamper me day? A couple of decades back I owned a home daycare and closed up shop every third Friday of the month. I called it my “Sane Day”. This was a day that I took to regroup, do something specifically for me. Don’t call me cause I’m not going to answer unless you are my child. Fast forward a decade or two and and my dad passed and then Covid happened. I found myself mentally challenged because I lost my best friend, my accountability partner and couldn’t be as active as the way that I used to. So, I turned to my other passion, cooking. I created recipes and shared them on Facebook live. It cleared the cobwebs in my head and kept me grounded. It fulfilled a need that kept me sane. I still turn to cooking to keep me grounded and I still share recipes with friends and family to this day. Cooking relieves stress and helps me focus and think things through clearly. So I ask you again, what do you do to keep your mental health in check? What keeps you sane? Oh, be sure to check on your friends and family that you haven’t heard from in a while today. A kind word, knowing someone cares can lift someone’s spirits and boost their mental health. #mentalhealthcheckin #sane #grounded #friends #family #spa #weekendgetaway #passion #cooking #kindwords #askthenanny #noty #nannyoftheyear #theparentingspecialist #justfoodforthoughtprocess
