Is plucking mole hair bad? It is not uncommon for certain moles to grow hair. Intradermal nevi (a type of mole) commonly grow hair. Not only is this normal, but it is actually a reassuring sign. The problem with plucking mole hairs is that it can irritate the mole and cause it to become inflamed. This can make the mole difficult to evaluate for any potential changes. A risk of attempting to remove mole hair is that it can grow back into the surrounding hair, causing an ingrown hair. This can leave the mole inflamed and make it difficult to properly evaluate. This also can cause scarring. While intradermal nevi are not cancerous and do not turn into melanoma, always show your dermatologist any new, changing, or worrisome moles. Importantly, do not attempt to remove a mole yourself! This can cause infection, bleeding, scarring, and you could possibly be removing something more serious than a simple mole. @Meagan Carboney #plucking #hairplucking #molehair #dermatologist
