Getting real & honest about Brego’s training progress as I’m so proud of it, but owning a strong KNPV Dutch shepherd is not for the faint of heart… let alone owning one in a chaotic environment such as a city. At a little more than 5 months old, he has gotten a lot better about not wanting to chase cars/trucks/scooters/etc. (and not trying to redirect onto me instead of the toy/treat if he doesn’t get the satisfaction from the car) but I expect the progress reliability to be up and down until he’s more mature/closer to 1-2 years old. There is a fine line with capping his drives at such a young age and it’s extremely important to me that doing so doesn’t negatively affect building him up on the sport field/PPD & detection work down the line. I cannot stress this enough: These types of dogs are NOT pets. Brego is essentially a formula 1 car and is simply not made for calmly walking around neighborhoods or even being kept in the garage for a couple of races around the track each year. He requires tons of work, skill, patience and understanding… and I am not attempting to do this alone. I have support, guidance and help from other fantastic trainers because doing it right truly takes a village. #knpvdutchshepherd #knpv #trainyourdog
