I started playing bass 🎸 when I was about 12 years old. Actually, I started playing ~upright bass~ when I was 12. ➡️ Comment any other questions you have about bass, music, or anything else! I’m excited to answer in the comments :) 🌸 One day, we all took turns going to the music room to try different instruments and choose the one we wanted to play. I walked in knowing I wanted to play double bass in orchestra. The teacher told me that I should play tuba instead because of my “small hands.” (It’s wild that some lady’s bias could have changed the entire course of my life—had I listened to her.) I transferred schools the next year, and I was able to play double bass without resistance. ✨I think my orchestra director was happy to see a little lady on bass, actually. I rented instruments from school for my first few years of player. Then, after what seemed like an eternity of waiting, my grandmother bought me my first electric bass. 🎉 🔥 So, in many ways, it’s like I started playing closer to age 14 or 15. I’ve never taken private bass lessons. (I briefly took jazz lessons on upright bass in college.) I think I also had brief one-on-one lessons on upright periodically in summers and things like that... But in any case, I’ve been playing bass since I was about 12 and I’ve been teaching bass for nearly as long. I think it was less than a year after I got my first bass guitar that I gave my first bass lesson. I taught a woman 10 years older than me enough in three months to join a band. 💞 The experience inspired me. Since then, I’ve taught over 100 individuals one-on-one and in larger larger groups at Girls Rock Camp and music schools. I love seeing new bassists find their musicianship and settle into their own groove on bass. It’s a truly magical feeling. And I’m so honored to get to do so here on TikTok. So excited to respond to your question about bass, music, or anything else in the comments! ✨💕🦋 🖤 April Kae #doiwannaknow #doiwannaknowarcticmonkeys #arcticmonkeys #bassguitr #basstok #foryou #goviral
