The valve body acts as the control center of the automatic transmission, it contains a maze of channels and passages that direct the transmission fluid through valves to control the various clutches, bands and drums that change gears.  Vehicles have a number of sensors that are monitoring vehicle speed, engine load and throttle position and send this information to an onboard computer, which in turn communicates with the valve body in order to shift up and down between gears. When a shift is needed, valves open and close to direct transmission fluid to the appropriate area to make the gear change occur.  Transmission fluid, unlike motor oil, is more than just a lubricating fluid; it’s a hydraulic fluid. The transmission fluid flowing through the valve body is under tremendous pressure, which in turn generates heat.  As the soft parts in the transmission break down, they leave small particles in the fluid as contaminants, which becomes abrasive. 🎗 Share, Comment, and save for more people to see. All series production power steering systems maintain a mechanical connection between the vehicle's front wheels and the steering wheel. If the assistance system, be it electric or hydraulic, were to fail, the mechanical link still works as a backup. Further, current regulations require this mechanical connection to be in place. However, the rigid mechanical connection is a major drawback as far as the systems functional features are concerned. Issues such as noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) and crashworthiness are also drawbacks of the rigid system. Advances in mechatronic systems mean that the rigid link may be replaced - with wires. Steer-by-wire vehicles transfer the rotation of the steering wheel to front wheel movement by using sensors and use an electronically controlled actuator in place of the conventional steering rack. Feedback, an important characteristic of a steering system, is generated for the driver by a force feedback actuator behind the steering wheel. Back to the conveyor belt project 🙌 ••• Finally I can get back to work on this daunting, massive, project. Sometimes the only way out is through, and thats going to be my mantra over the next couple weeks. ••• First up is the manipulator arm, or robot arm that will replace the clunky pick and place mechanism I had before. Using stepper motors and a passive gripper system, inverse kinematics transform the position of the end effector into angular positions of the joints. This basically means I can tell the robot where to go and it will now go there.
