These cobweb weaver (Theridiidae) baby spiders are so incredibly cute. I found the egg sac in my garage. I want to make the disclaimer that I kept the baby spiders in the petri dish for a little while and then released them back into the same web where I found them in my garage so no baby spider was harmed while making this video! . Spiders tend to lay lots of eggs. The point of doing this is because only a handful of spiders will really make it (this is a common reproductive ecological strategy used by a lot of animals). . The interesting thing about spiders like these is that the baby spiders stay in the mother's web for a period of time before they begin to disperse. While the baby spider siblings are together, if they don't get any food after a while, they will start eating each other in order to survive (sibling cannibalism). . For this video I used an Olympus CX31 microscope at 40X magnification. #microscope #microscopy #araneae #spiders #cuteanimals #arachnids #eggsac #drbioforever
