What happens when you spin a gyroscope in space?👀 A #gyroscope is basically a spinning wheel. If you make it spin even just a little bit with your fingers, you can see that it changes its behaviour a lot. If you spin it faster using a rope, you can see that even more. It does not want to change its orientation. Not only does not tumble, but it really wants to maintain the orientation of its spinning axis in space. This property is #gyroscopic rigidity and it’s used a lot in #spaceflight, for example, to maintain the orientation in space of #satellites. I used the gyroscopic rigidity for a little fun demonstration of what Space Station does as it flies around the Earth. Find out what happened! #MissionMinerva
