One can use any left over fir needles from either a garland, wreath or even your tree. Just scoop some of the dry leftovers into a glass container and fill up with one part vinegar essence and four parts of water. This time these branches straight out of a fairy tale with an abundance of little ball shaped white blossoms which explode into puffy frills looked so charming yet neither me nor the dear florist were familiar with its name 😅 Help us out here if you please! 🤗 I accompanied the »unknown« with white hyacinths which the Victorians gave to someone they cared for wanting to say: “I’ll be praying for you” 🤍 White tulips mostly chosen for purity and honour furthermore symbolise »forgiveness and respect«. 👵🏻 Last but by all means not least I chose some spring snowflakes with their multiple cups sprouting from one stem for they represent »memory of youth« and I am ever so glad they crossed my path on this of all days…… I have been debating a long time whether to share the sad background story of how I came into possession of the vintage crystal vase. Since you have come so far reading my caption I assume you might be some kind of kindred spirit following me here and therefore judge kindly: I kind of inherited it but it feels really odd to say so since the member of my family who really owns it is very much alive. For quite some time now their home sits empty since dealing with dementia they live in a care home. Dealing with the reality of having to take care of the physical needs for an elderly family member is admittedly a huge challenge for the next of kin - and so is having to deal with their legal affairs and possessions when they are no longer able to do so themselves. How to do it right? When asked by their next of kin to look through the estate and choose what I’d like I kept postponing the event having not yet come to terms with the inevitable. Now that vase has sat wrapped in a box with other memorabilia I chose for over a month. Today I decided to use it for the first time - not because it felt right, it just seemed so fitting for the arrangement of flowers I was about to create. Still it’s odd using someone else’s object without them knowing it’s left their home. I know they would wholeheartedly want me to have that vase now if they could grasp the reality of goings on. But they don’t. Here are the ingredients and methof for the Lemon-Thyme-Gugelhupf: mix 200 grams of butter with 250 grams of sugar until really creamy 😋 add the zest of two organic lemons, 250 millilitres of buttermilk and three eggs 🥚🥚🥚then mix 450 grams of flour with one sachet of baking powder and mix under the dough. Leave a #💛 if you like! 🤭 Saffron yeast braid in the making! 😋 We mixed 400 grams of spelt flour with one teaspoon of ground saffron, a pinch of salt and 60 grams of sugar. Beau stirred 21 grams of fresh yeast with 1 teaspon of sugar untill it turned liquid. We added 175-200 millilitres of vanilla soy milk, one egg and 50 grams of butter and the liquid yeast to the dry ingredients and kneaded the dough for ten minutes before we let it rest under a damp cloth for an hour, then kneaded it again and braided the bun out of 4 strands, let it rest again for half an hour and baked it at 200 degrees Celsius for approximately 15 minutes. Depending on how moist your dough is - it might take a little longer. We have made this yeast braid five times this season and each time we used a little more or less of the soy milk depending on how dry the dough felt while kneading it. Victorian marbled eggs in the making today! 🤭 Cutting red cabbage for colouring some Easter eggs and shredding onion skins to give the white organic chicken eggs an interesting pattern by rolling the eggs in the skins before wrapping them in old cotton jersey scraps. Experimenting with tumeric for a yellowish colouring for the first time - I have read it will be best to boil it for 10 minutes before dyeing. The red cabbage has to boil for half an hour to perform best as dye. It will give the eggs a deep blue tint naturally, adding some baking soda it will turn into a more greenish blue. Adding some vinegar helps the eggshells to absorb the colours better!
