Whats your favorite childhood sandwich? . . . Every Friday morning, my dad would set up the spit for the shawarma. It was always fresh and never lasted past 3:30. Fridays were a big deal, with people coming from all over the nation to get a taste. We had folks from Cali, Ohio, Florida, New York, and Chicago lining up for a sandwich from my dad’s shawarma. It was a sell-out every Friday, and for good reason. The layers of lamb and beef, covered in that unique tangy flavor, were only prepared once a week and never cooked twice. Nowadays, when people talk about my father’s shawarma, it’s like they’re talking about a legend. Sure, there are hundreds of other places that serve delicious sandwiches, but none of them compare to my dad’s. Just ask anyone who’s ever had one - they were truly something special. .
