Progressive overload, simply put, means to be able to DO MORE over time⏰ Traditionally, most people will think of “MORE” as simply adding more weight onto the bar. While that’s one way to progressively overload, it is not the only way. You can also train for progressive overload by increasing the volume of a set by getting in MORE REPS while keeping the weight, rest and tempo fixed. So if the dumbbells that you are using are feeling light, you may want to get in one, two or even three EXTRA REPS. Other ways to achieve progressive overload are - increasing the range of motion of the given exercise, taking shorter breaks and doing more sets or simply adding in extra pulses or holds for increased time under tension (TUT). So yes - a pair of dumbbells can be incredibly versatile and effective for building muscle. Progressive overload, simply put, means to be able to DO MORE over time⏰ Traditionally, most people will think of “MORE” as simply adding more weight onto the bar. While that’s one way to progressively overload, it is not the only way. You can also train for progressive overload by increasing the volume of a set by getting in MORE REPS while keeping the weight, rest and tempo fixed. So if the dumbbells that you are using are feeling light, you may want to get in one, two or even three EXTRA REPS. Other ways to achieve progressive overload are - increasing the range of motion of the given exercise, taking shorter breaks and doing more sets or simply adding in extra pulses or holds for increased time under tension (TUT). So yes - a pair of dumbbells can be incredibly versatile and effective for building muscle.
