Imagine my excitement when I arrived at one of the most popular waterfall parks in the state of New York, and nobody else was there! I arrived at Watkins Glen at 6:00 am on a Saturday morning and had the entire Gorge Trail to myself. It was amazing! The Gorge Trail is 1.5 miles one way and will take you past 19 waterfalls and up over 800 steps. I added the West Rim and Indian Trails plus a climb up Jacob’s Ladder and Couch’s Staircase to get some extra miles in, but the Gorge Trail is easily the highlight of this park. I finished up my hike around 8:00 am, and it still wasn’t terribly crowded, so if 6:00 am is too early for you, I think you’d still beat the crowds if you go an hour or two later.
