Yesterday evening, I came across a post on our community Facebook page inquiring about a dog that was spotted huddled near a log in a notorious area where people abandon their dogs. As I scrolled through the comments checking back in for an entire hour, I kept reminding myself that we didn't have the space, didn't have the funding and I didn't want to venture out again after a grueling day. However, against my initial decision, I found myself leaving our driveway at 10pm to check if the dog was still present. As I arrived at the scene, my eyes caught sight of a petite dark silhouette huddled near the log. It dawned on me that I had carelessly forgotten to bring a flashlight, so I decided to keep the headlights of my vehicle on and activated the flashlight feature on my phone. With the light in front of me, I cautiously approached, ensuring that it illuminated my face rather than casting a shadow behind me. Taking a seat on the log, I observed her closely, only to be met with a pair of bloodshot eyes. Instantly, I sensed that something was amiss. As she inched closer, I noticed the bloodshot whites of her eyes and when she attempted to approach me, I observed that she was unable to put weight on her front left leg. Additionally, the absence of her collar with a very prominent collar mark. My suspicions were confirmed she was injured and had been dumped. After investing some time in building a sense of trust with her, I carefully enveloped her in my coat and gently lifted her up. Placing her delicately on the front seat of my car, I embarked on the journey back home, intending to provide her with the necessary pain medication and a thorough examination. As soon as we arrived and she was comfortably settled, I couldn't help but notice the tender area on her neck, where her collar had caused a painful abrasion before she was callously abandoned, treated as if she were worthless. Introducing Davina Claire, a delightful canine whose name was inspired by last nights experience. As I flew down that muddy road, my mind racing to ensure she was still nestled next to a fallen log she was photographed by earlier in the evening the name "Davina Claire" suddenly struck me. It was inspired by the moment, as I belted out AC/DC tunes slightly off-key, desperately trying to stay awake and keep my thoughts occupied. Although "DC" initially caught my attention, I quickly dismissed it, realizing it wouldn't suit this charming and gentle-hearted furry companion. Thus, Davina Claire became the perfect namesake for this sweet girl. Due to the closing of our rescue and limited funding, we were unable to take in another dog, especially one requiring veterinary care for injuries. Nevertheless, I was faced with a difficult decision - either shelter and care for her or leave her alone and frightened in the cold. It was a shock to discover her injuries when I saw her in person. To help alleviate her pain for, I started to administer Gabapentin. Davina Claire is scheduled to visit Lake Marion Animal Hospital tomorrow at 3:00. Any help with Davina's care and medical attention is greatly appreciated! ‼ DIRECTLY TO THE VET: Lake Marion Animal Hospital 803-488-8800 Account #4946 RAVE Rescue OR BY CHECK 1349 Felton St Summerton, SC 29148 CASHAPP: $RAVEHollyHillSC VENMO: @RaveRescueHollyHill PAYPAL: RAVE.HollyHill@gmail.com BY MAIL: RAVE Rescue PO Box #1104 Holly Hill, SC 29058 #DogRescue #RescueDog #AnimalRescue #RescueLife #DogRescuers #AnimalRescuers #HitByCar #InjredDog #DonationsNeeded #PledgesNeeded #NonProfit #Dog #Dogs #Pup #BlackDog #DogOfTheDay #RescueDogs #RescueMission #MedicalEmergency #DogLovers #AnimalAdvocate #AnimalWelfare
