At this clinical site I’m scheduled four days a week-the group operates in such a way that when you’re done with your cases you check on your colleagues and then head home-and the CRNAs rotate call. Did you work during nursing school? I firmly believe two things; 1. Every nursing job helps the community & there is no such thing as *wasted time* because you learn & give back to your community in every nursing position 2. New graduate nurses with the proper support & length of orientation can be trained to start in any unit. The problem is that under the for-profit medical model in the U.S.—units are incentivized to cut orientation lengths short and cut education funding which leaves patients at risk and nurses set up for failure. Even since I started as a new grad nurse in 2019 I have seen orientation lengths cut significantly —-I had a 6 month orientation in a high acuity CVSICU & I see ICU orientations cut to as little as 8-12 weeks. @chrissycrna and I have created a comprehensive library of critical care resources through @confidentcareacademy to empower critical care nurses-here’s what our nurses have to say.
