We GOTTA stop saying this… 👇🏾 … in regards to what happened in Alabama, and by “this” I mean, we gotta stop saying, “This ain’t the 50s/60s,” OR, “We are not our ancestors.” 🤦🏾♂️ What that reveals is that we were likely (willingly) educated by the same people who educated those white dudes who jumped that Black man in Alabama. Our ancestors ALWAYS fought back physically, in every decade, year, month and week since we’ve been under this social structure. But just to be clear, these are three people/groups to look up from the era we assume only included nonviolent protests. Folks like the Deacons for Defense, Robert F. Williams and Theodore Roosevelt Mason Howard are a good place to start. 🙏🏾 I used to think that too, so I ain’t judging at all. A good book to read on this is my source for this video: “This Nonviolent Stuff’ll Get You Killed.” 📖 ALSO… there’s nothing wrong with nonviolent protests! There’s nothing weak about it. It takes a lot of strength and conviction! Let’s practice honoring our ancestors no matter how they chose to fight because without them, we wouldn’t be here. WE are our ancestors. Proudly. ✊🏾 🚨 Check my bio for resources and book(ing) info. #blackhistory #history #ushistory #louisiana #jonesboro #mississippi #northcarolina #monroe #alabama #montgomery #birmingham #blackinstagram #bloodysaturday #fadeinthewater #racism #naacp #nra #selfdefense #armed #antiracism #speaker #fypシ #blacktiktoks
