It is often associated with the Lunar New Year, as it is a traditional dish served during this holiday. In fact, it is said that eating tteokguk on the first day of the Lunar New Year brings good luck and prosperity throughout the year. Today, tteokguk is enjoyed by people of all ages throughout Korea. It is typically made with beef broth and sliced rice cakes, and is often garnished with thinly sliced egg, green onions, and sesame seeds. It is a comforting and delicious dish that is perfect for any occasion, but especially during the Winter months when it is served hot to warm the body.
