excited to finally share new work. been kind of mia the past couple months as i had to focus on getting workflow up and running on the cnc. . currently untitled, this build is the first real go at creating a hanging form via the cnc. working in this realm opens an entirely new way to explore and create layout. the level of control it provides allows me to translate inspiration from various organic and/or synthetic structures in a way that i haven’t been able to previously with freeform work. this first build, for example, gleans from the vascular structure of parenchyma as well as digits resting in a set of brass knuckles. . another aspect that i am extremely eager to explore is how the level of precision enables different ways a piece can be illuminated. this form eliminates the need for a diffuser by using indirect light positioning - something i’ve previously explored in the past with freeform but was always limited when using that technique. that in combination with color finish creates a color-glow effect - i.e., the piece can create the effect of a RGB color light while using only white LED, which has the benefit of achieving a desired color light (which i have been exploring since last year), while still producing task light functionality. . if you’re in nyc - this piece can be viewed at culture object. . . #chandelier #collectibledesign #customlighting #sculpture #sculpturallighting #handmadelighting #hanginglights #hanginglight
