The final moments before our lives changed forever in the best way 🥹 Blake always made sure I had what I needed and more during pregnancy. Never complained or hesitated to jump up when I needed anything, made sure I was eating and drinking enough every day. Would jump up to help me get up and out of bed when I was struggling. Kept up with the household chores and getting prepped for baby. Had to lay and hold my belly every night to feel baby moving around and talk about how excited he was to meet Bruin 🫶🏼 And all of this plus more has carried into us having our baby. Happy due date to our rootinest tootinest cowboy! 🤠 Our little squish had his two week appointment today and was weighing exactly 7 lbs which means we are above birth weight and headed in a great direction weight-wise! Today is his due date and we got 2 extra weeks with our little guy! Each night he has a wake window at about 11:30 and I had a complete meltdown the other day because he used to have that same wake window while I was pregnant and I was feeling so many emotions about him not being in my belly anymore 🥲 but we are so happy to have him here and healthy! We had a hard time regulating his blood sugar in the hospital (I’ll share more on that soon) and had to supplement with pasteurized human milk in the hospital, and then formula at home. But this last week has been exclusively breastfeeding and he is doing great and gaining the weight he needs and I am so beyond grateful to have the supply and ability to exclusively breastfeed for now! Dear C Section Moms, If anyone has ever made you feel you took the easy way out, let me remind you what you went through. You laid your body down and allowed your surgeon to cut you open through seven layers all while conscious. You had no choice but to be strapped down in a cold sterile room while you did everything in your power to breathe and stay calm as you shook uncontrollably. The only kind of birth that your spouse couldn’t be apart of until right before the surgery occurred. You felt every pull and tug while they tried to get your baby out safely while you prayed to God you both survived. Although you were able to see and hear your baby cry behind the plastic, you weren’t able to hold your baby until you were fully closed up and transferred to the recovery room which could’ve taken up to 2 hours. Forced to do breathing treatments every hour so your lungs didn’t collapse all while trying to learn how to teach your baby to latch in the correct form. Just when you thought you could rest, every 10-15 minutes the nurse came in to knead your uterus to encourage the bleeding to stop and the muscle to shrink. Instead of changing diapers and looking after the baby, you practiced walking the hallways with a nurse holding your hand and dragging a pole with your catheter and urine dragging close behind. Then being discharged from the hospital two days later to then go home and take care of your baby and any other children you might have. You see, some people seem to think there are two kinds of moms..those who have c-sections and those who do not. This ‘battle’ divides us, and makes one side feel like a mother who didn’t do the right thing. But that’s where they’re wrong. We simply did what had to be done in order to get our babies here safely and that is nothing to be ashamed of. That is strength. Your body did not fail you. You created that baby, grew them and nurtured them the same way every other mom has. In the first few seconds of your child’s life, you overcame so much in the name of love.
