River is 18 months old, and we just said goodbye to his crib and moved him into a toddler bed!! I can’t believe we’re already here 🥹🩵 Transitioning to a toddler bed is a big step to take for toddlers, so to make this change as smooth and seamless as possible I’m going to follow these 3 steps... ⭐1. Get him prepared. After I set up his new bed in his room, I showed him the bed to help get him excited about it. I let him practice climbing in and out of bed all by himself, and celebrated it. ⭐2. Follow our regular bed time routine. With this big change, I am going to try to keep things as normal as possible with everything else. We stuck to our same routine of getting drinks, giving hugs and kisses, saying good night, and listening to our favorite characters’ stories and songs as they fall asleep. ⭐3. Set the expectations. As I laid him into bed, I explained to him that now that it is time for bed, we are going to stay in bed, and go to sleep. Now here’s the tricky part... He’s gonna get out of bed, because now he can, and he’s going to test the boundaries. Knowing that this was going to happen, I made a plan for what I was going to do, and how I would handle him getting out of bed. -The 1st time out of bed I carried him back into bed, tucked him back in, and explained to him again that it is time for bed, and we need to stay in bed. Just like I did when I first laid him down. -The 2nd time out of bed I carried him back to bed, laid him back down, and kept my instructions simple, “It’s time to stay in bed.” Then walked right back out. -The 3rd time, and every other time after he got out of bed Without saying anything to him, I simply picked him up, laid him back down in bed, and walked right back out of his bedroom. -By the 7th time he got out of bed It clicked, and he walked himself back into bed, and after I tucked him back in and walked back out, he stayed in bed and slept for the rest of the night. #gentleparenting #parenting #parentingtips #gentleparent #toddlerlife #toddlers #toddlerbed #toddlerlifeishard #momlifebelike #momlife #momlifeunfiltered #momlifeishard #momlife101 #toddlerlearning #sleeptraining #parentingwithintention
