Happy international women’s day! every year on the 8th of March this is what we hear. It’s absolutely wonderful. For one whole week, we talk about all things that affect women and girls around the world. That’s brilliant too. The thing that’s not so brilliant. Is that after this one week most people forget about how important it is to change the narrative for women and girls. Since I was born, I have felt the persecution of being born as a girl. Everything that has happened to me is because I am a girl, it then continued as I am a woman. I still feel persecuted in my community. I am isolated for I am a symbol of dishonour and shame for my family. Not because I did something wrong but I spoke out about the wrong that happened to me. So there’s still a lot of work to do. However you can, where ever you can, be kind, be honest and more than anything, be just. That goes for both men and women. I do believe that now more than ever being a woman is becoming more and more controversial. With all the new terms for sexual identity. Women are becoming a costume for a lot of people. It angers me when I hear things like they want to change the word mother to birthing partner. We’ve had to work so hard to get to where we are and still have a long way to go. So if you ever envy a cis woman, then go and live a day in a poverty, stricken family that live in rural Bangladesh. Where every time baby girl is born the first thing they think about is how they will have to marry her off by the age of 13. Most likely to a man much older, that would pay a good amount of dowry. Happy international women’s day, to my sisters, you are more than a day dedicated to you. You are divine, you are the epitome of grace, you provide balance, you carry life, you are beautiful, your body is precious, your soul is pure, your heart is gentle. Your gut is your guide, listen to it. Trust yourself, only you can stand up and change how people treat you. I celebrate to you. I love you. #internationalwomensday #womensrightsmatter #girlsarestrongtoo #equalrights
