You cannot say you want depth in a relationship - but also say, yeah, I like the relationship to be easy. Clients always ask me, "Sarah, I want more than a surface-level relationship. I want one with depth" -- and I always have to remind them it's only possible to have that with someone also looking for the same. Because truly deep and meaningful relationships require active participants who are willing to put in the work to create that depth. I know this next part will sound like a cliche, but - relationships are like gardens – they require constant nurturing and attention to thrive truly. You can't do the bare minimum one day and think it'll grow based on nothing. Just like a garden, a relationship needs active participants willing to dig deep and work on the roots so that the flowers can blossom and their fruits can grow that you find fulfilling and worth the time and energy you put in. Sorry, there are no cheat sheets for relationships. If you want to create a genuinely depth-filled relationship, you gotta be willing to work on it every day, and be open to communication, a willingness to put in the effort to make it thrive. Trust me, as exhausting as it sounds - if it's something you feel you want, you'll be glad you did. #couplestherapy #relationships #depth #communication #love
