When I was given the opportunity to review BirdTricks’ new Big Flocking Box of bird toys, I jumped at the chance! An opportunity to get some of the best toys on the market AND educate a little on bird-keeping?! Trick training is just a way to bond with our pets and keep them engaged… other than recall and flight training, tricks are often just for fun! For those looking for tips on teaching: I use a combination of my voice (high and energetic), hand signals and body language (clapping , smiling) to keep Wolfie motivated.. and of course treats are a must for him. Millet seeds are his favorite. Not only can birds see colours, but they can see many more colours than humans can, including ultraviolet light which is invisible to the human eye. They’re also more sensitive to different colour shades as their eyes can filter out certain colours. This might explain why Wolfie and Sharky are sometimes so wary of certain mundane objects in the house for reasons we don’t understand. Like a little bright pink basket! Tony Hawk’s spirit animal might just be The Parrotlet 😂😂 Once the birds learn to skateboard it’s really easy for them - to teach them this trick all they need to learn is target training. You notice that after the first ramp Wolfie looks up at me for the next cue (and behind the camera I’m pointing down at the next ramp) - that’s how he knows how to jump onto the next board.
