Vegan diets are healthier than onnivorous diets? *Hides from angry people* A new study has been hitting the headlines recently. And to be honest with you, I have no idea why so many people have got so wound up about it. Well, I do, but it is not relating to the actual study lol. In this pioneering research paper, they took identical twins and put one of each on a ‘healthy vegan diet’ and the other on a ‘healthy omnivorous diet’ to see which was better for heart health. The vegan diet won, with improvements to LDL cholesterol and fasting insulin levels. But, when people ate the vegan diet they consumed 1) more vegetables 2) fewer calories. Which is actually very inline with a lot of research literature we have already. When people adopt vegan (or some other plant-based diets), it’s quite common for their dietary pattern to improve, which often results in weight loss and improved health markers. This free-living study doesn’t prove that vegan diets are always better, as such. But, it does show that people who follow (healthy) vegan diets often have improved health markers. Which shouldn’t be super surprising to anyone. But of course, anything with the word ‘vegan’ always causes some people to get their underwear all bunched up. P.S. my best-selling book, ‘Everything Fat Loss’ is currently on sale as a brand-new audiobook, plus digital/print versions from Barnes and Noble, Apple, Kobo, Google, and Amazon with an extra 33% off in Canada. Feel free to grab it before the price goes up (Iink in profile). #vegan #veganfood #vegandiet #veganism #veganrecipes #omnivore #omnivorediet #meat #vegetables #fruits #fitness #fittok #gymtok #gym #weightloss #fatloss #calorie #calories #caloriedeficit #cholesterol #insulin #foryou #fyp #fypシ
