“What’s the most ‘controversial’ thing you’ve told your ICU orientees?” 😅 ⬆️ I got this question the other day and it really made me think… Of allllll the advice I’ve given to my new grads/hires (and new followers on this app!): what would be considered the most ‘controversial’?! 🤔 My #1 response: To study/review unfamiliar concepts on your days off. 📚 I don’t say this is something you HAVE to do, but as someone who started in the ICU as a new grad myself, and quickly learned how STEEP the learning curve is in the ICU… It’s something that I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you consider! 👍🏼 The reality is that ICU is a speciality unit, and nursing schools don’t always teach you the fundamentals to help you hit the ground running. 🩺 …Nor does your ICU preceptor always have the time to talk to you about every little thing you saw that day. 🏥 …Nor does your ICU educator have the time to review allll of the new concepts you’re learning! 🚑 Interested in getting a head start on some review material? Check out visual education ‘New to ICU’ resources!! My comprehensive packet includes seven sections of ICU One-Pagers to help you learn foundational concepts/skill building for working in the ICU! Good luck out there, ICU nurses! 💚 - #nurse #nursing #nursesoftiktok #nursetok #nursin#nursingschoolngstudent #newgradnurse #scrublife #nursinglife #nurselife #nursesinspirenurses #newtoicu #icunurse #icunurselife #icurn #nursegraduation #nursegift #nursepreceptor
