🧠Brudzinski’s & Kernig’s sign is conducted to evaluate suspected meningitis. 🤒 Brudzinski’s -Occurs as a result of meningeal inflammation -Head flexion causes meningeal irritation by movement of the spinal cord within the meninges -The patient flex’s their hip to cancel out traction forces, lessening the irritation 🦵Kernig’s -Occurs as a result of meningeal inflammation due to movement of the spinal cord nerves against the meninges. -Extending the patients leg stretches the hamstring -Pulling on surrounding tissue near the spinal canal & meninges -Resulting in the leg being unable to fully extend without pain or resistance ⚠️ Both can raise suspicion towards meningitis however they are NOT a diagnostic tool to both rule in & out meningitis. Further testing is required in hospital. . 📷neurosurgicalfocus . 🚑 Hit follow & like for more prehospital content . . #meningitis #pediatrics #medicaleducation
