New series: BORING DOG TRAINING 😬 Where Marlowe’s training “looks” uneventful but read the captions - this was a big moment! 👀 We’ve already established a strong habit of checking in with me when she’s nervous, but my local trainer has us working with Marlowe looking at her trigger (from a safe under threshold distance) then showing her she has an out by tossing the treat AWAY 👇 This builds confidence and creates a healthy habit of making good decisions to create space when she needs it👇 Also, I’ve had some people ask about Marlowe being “reactive” and wanting to see footage of it (ie barking lunging etc)… But here’s the thing, I don’t want to put Marlowe in situations where she’s over threshold & “reacting” Does it happen? Yup, and it impacts me deeply. It’s something I personally need to work on, but when she does have a moment of “big feelings” -I’m learning how to take that as “information” and learn from (something her trainer taught me❤️) But you won’t see me put her in a position to lose her 💩 on purpose - ever It saddens me when I see a lot of content online of dogs barking, lunging “reacting” because (in my humble opinion) - that’s not setting our dogs up for success I focus on rewarding the desired behavior, slow and gradual progress, confidence building and desensitizing In fact - if we have a session where Marlowe has “big feelings” - we encourage and watch for a recovery then end early. To follow Marlowe’s journey, from puppy mill survivor to a brave good girl, follow along!!! #reactivedog #reactivedogtraining #dogbehavior #dogtrainerproblems #puppymillsurvivor #rescuedogsofinstagram #dogmum #fosterdogmom
