In 1989, we moved to Japan. Specifically Zushi, a town in Kanagawa Prefecture. I think we were the only gaijin (foreigners) there, or so it felt. This was the grocery store where we did our shopping and where a girl named Kiki worked (she took the photo). Kiki seemed to be convinced that we were American rock stars, especially me with my long hair. She had a crush on me and used to give me gifts every time we went grocery shopping. She baked me a cake and she even gave us Don Henley concert tickets. We weren’t fans, but we went to the show, and the best part was the end, when Mr. Henley sarcastically instructed the audience to go shopping. I kept telling Kiki that I was gay and married to Duane. Eventually, she got the message. 🤷🏻♂️ We were often homesick that year, but we always had each other, just like in every other adventure of the last 43 years. Today’s shirts: Diane Chambers of Cheers and Tiffany Wells of Charlie’s Angels. #couplegoals #gaycouplegoals
