They Are Not Turks - Mardin 🇹🇷 In the news, we always hear about conflicts happening in the Middle East and in Turkiye between different ethnic groups, and that’s why before coming to Mardin I expected to see a lot of rivalry between them. Especially considering that this city, “Mardin”, is not only inhabited by Kurdish, Arabs, Turks and Assyrians, but also it’s part of the disputed area that some Kurdish people refer to as “Greater Kurdistan”, or “Turkish-occupied Kurdistan territory” But to my surprise, the actual people living here are really peaceful, and they spend time with each other no matter their ethnicity. Most people here are actually proud of their city and the products made by the other ethnic groups. Actually, the first thing my Kurdish friend said to me when we arrived was: “You have to try the sweets that the Süryani (Assyrian) people make, they are the best”, and then she introduced us to her friends, and turned out they were all from different backgrounds!. We had dinner and they even had completely different political perspectives and they discussed with respect and love for one another, and I think they are an example to follow because, in my view, peace should always be the priority. #tukiye #mardin #kurdish #süryani #arabic #kurdos #kurdishpeople #kurdishtown #turks #turquia #peace #turcos #asirios #assyrian #travelturkiye #travel #culture #facts #peaceful #kurdistan 6m
