There was a time in our marriage when our greatest conflict was the opposite directions our lives were taking. Jonathan was thriving in his career, while I was losing mine to grow our family (I lost my job at 5 months due to preterm labor). There was a moment where I felt myself growing resentful toward him. Being a stay-at-home mom wasn’t my envisioned path; climbing the corporate ladder was, or so I thought. Then I realized, being a sole provider wasn’t his path either. We both had to adapt and evolve in what was evidently set forth for us by God. We began communicating about our feelings, covering each other in prayer specifically for our prospective paths, reassuring each other, and aiding each other where we fit in to do so. We recognized the blessing in both roles and made a plan to stay on track for the same prize. Then, we threw in myself starting a business, which threw another curveball! But we learned from before, supported each other effortlessly, and now we are on one path together because of it! Prepare for the twists of life by establishing open communication and understanding early on. Embrace the differences in desires and opportunities, recognizing that both partners will evolve. Prioritize support and shared goals, cultivating a strong foundation that can weather the challenges of different paths, because there will be some, we are human. Never forget that who you married won’t be who you are married to tomorrow. Their desires will change as they grow and evolve as a person. Be apart of that change so that your marriage is at the finish line, waiting to celebrate the victories, not left behind in the dust because it couldn’t keep up. #blacklover #conflictresolution #marriedlife #marriedcouple #romanticcouple #couplestiktok #blackmarriage #marriedmybestfriend
