Did you work during nursing school? I firmly believe two things; 1. Every nursing job helps the community & there is no such thing as *wasted time* because you learn & give back to your community in every nursing position 2. New graduate nurses with the proper support & length of orientation can be trained to start in any unit. The problem is that under the for-profit medical model in the U.S.—units are incentivized to cut orientation lengths short and cut education funding which leaves patients at risk and nurses set up for failure.
