They all look pretty real to me! đ We do get this question a lot and have never personally been offended by it because we totally understand what people are meaning to ask. People donât always have the vocabulary to ask some of the common questions adoptive families get and thatâs okay. I donât think most people mean anything insulting by it. Theyâre just curious or trying to be kind. It can be a little confusing to one who is unfamiliar with adoption when he or she sees a family like ours. We are often asked if we are a foster home or a church youth group when we are out and about. The looks on their faces when we respond that all 7 are OUR kids are often pretty hilarious. â¨We did overhear a woman snarkily muttering under her breath this week, âWhere are their REAL parents?â in a derogatory tone, and that happens sometimes too. Again, ignorance abounds in our world. And where it first hurt and even enraged our hearts - it also helped us to realize exactly how much people donât know about adoption. We are told we just adopted for the money. That we have a White Savior Complex. That we should never have adopted our children but saved some for all the parents who can't have kids. And the list goes on... Hurt people hurt people, I suppose. We never respond. We just continue to love all of our very real children because they are just that - REAL. Whether biological or adopted, they are ours. Fully wanted. Fully loved. Fully chosen. When it hurts and when itâs hard. When itâs broken and when itâs beautiful. Through the uncontrollable laughter and the tears that don't seem to stop. That's a description of parenting, by the way. And while adoption may have its own unique set of challenges and traumas, at the end of the day, the call is to selflessly love, protect, sacrifice, guide, and provide for these amazing little humans. To be their safe place and forever family. To be their home. Even if it's just a home to come back to when they've strayed. That's the beauty of adoption. That's the beauty of parenting. #NationalAdoptionMonth #InternationalAdoptionMonth #Adoption #BigFamily #Parenting #LargeFamily #familyof9 #momlife #dadlife #7kids
