Growing up gay in a conservative church in a conservative area, I worried that my family might be better off without me, because so many people told me that the gays were ruining our country. I grew up worrying that I might damage the people around me just by choosing to keep living. You’re doing the exact same thing to kids when you claim that just existing in a big body is “promoting obesity.” If you rant on and on about how obesity kills and is the worst possible thing ever, and then say someone simply living in a body you don’t think is good enough is promoting it, what message does that send kids?
