Got Mail clutter? Are you the boss of the mail toss? You have a pile of mail so large that it makes Mount Everest look like an ant hill, and you have no idea how it happened? If this mail mountain isn’t your pride and joy, but rather a mess of stress, I’m here to help! This little habit hack will set you up for success! It’s called Habit Stacking. I learned about this habit busting method in the book Atomic Habits. It’s a Good Read! It’s the process of taking a positive habit and stacking on a new tiny habit so you can send that negative habit packing! For every negative clutter habit, there’s a positive habit that precedes it. For example: - Positive Habit: bringing mail into the house - Negative habit: tossing onto a mail pile You want to replace the negative habit with a new tiny habit, a system to prevent the clutter. The easier, faster and more obvious the new tiny habit is the more likely you are to stick with it. Here’s one way to prevent mail clutter. Create a mail station somewhere in your home where you are able to quickly and easily sort your daily mail. I have a mail organizer in my home office that holds file folders, pens, paper and scissors. I labeled the file folders “Bills, Coupons, Shred, File” This makes organizing my daily mail very simple and nothing gets lost or forgotten. I highly recommend not throwing away documents that contain personal information or junk mail like credit card offers. Shredding is the best way to prevent identity theft. If you don’t have a paper shredder, a confidentiality stamp is the next best thing. Simply roll the stamp over the printed information you want to hide before tossing it in the trash. Do you have a mail system to prevent clutter in your house?
