Women in India statistically face more barriers when it comes to gaining access to the skills and equipment needed to successfully raise livestock, and Project Mesha is specifically designed to solve this problem. The Pashu Sakhi project focuses on improvements in a few key areas, like deworming and vaccinations, breeding controls to improve the health of the Black Bengal breed, access to equipment for fair pricing, and even self-defense training. They’ve connected women to the supply chain to get what they need medically, and have training modules on everything from sterile best practices during vaccinations to how to build shelters for their herds. Changing the way the women raise their goats has a direct and clear financial benefit, but the culture change it creates in the role women can play in their families and communities is just as significant. #india #goats #bihar
