Harvard followed the course of multiple other colleges in reversing its test-optional policy. It will require an SAT or ACT score for nearly all applicants applying in Fall of 2025. It cited data showing that students were unwittingly hurting their own apllications by withholdign test scores that would have been viewed favorably by admissions committees because they were high scores for those students’ demographics (even if they were below average for Harvard). By withholding those scores, low-income students that would have been accepted with the scores submitted were instead rejected.
