We trapped little Benita today after being told about her on social media. We didn’t have a plan for her but there was no way we were able to ignore her. She would go daily to a taco truck and beg for food. It was obvious that Benita was pregnant. We almost always will spay abort these momma dogs. It’s an incredibly taboo subject in the rescue world. It’s hard for people to understand that it truly is the most compassionate decision. Allowing a mom dog to go into labor is unnecessarily putting her thru PAIN and SUFFERING. Giving birth is so exhausting for these dogs who are already in poor health. I could list 1,000 good reasons to terminate pregnancies of our new rescue intakes. And no matter how much I explain it there will always be someone who disagrees with me. And that’s ok. Often times these people aren’t fostering pregnant moms or fostering at all. They don’t see the daily suffering of stray animals. They don’t spend every waking moment figuring out how to help just one more. Benita is moving on with her life and we are putting Benita’s care and needs first.
